Welcome to the #TaraTribe.


Run by a mother and daughter team,

Tara Academy is an Irish dancing school based in Darwin, Northern Territory.


Registered with the Australian Irish Dancing Association and the South Australian branch, Tara Academy is the only school in the Territory to have a qualified TCRG teacher with the Commission in Ireland, so you know you will learn the correct techniques safely.

Now offering Irish music lessons in 2022, Tara Academy continues to share Irish culture with the Darwin community, bringing Irish families together, and introducing Irish dance and music to people of all nationalities and backgrounds.

VANESSA FREW TCRG
(MISS V)

Principal Teacher/Owner

Vanessa Frew TCRG first learnt to dance in County Mayo at the age of 8 and has been teaching Irish Dancing since she was 18.

After many years of running a successful Irish Dancing school in Perth, producing many champion Irish dancers who also became teachers, she now coaches in Darwin with her daughter Christine.

Vanessa also has extensive experience in the Healthcare industry, in particular, with Aged and Disability and works full time as a Regional Assessment Service Manager.

CHRISTINE JOYCE
(MISS C)

Teacher/Owner

Christine started dancing at the age of 4 at her mothers dance school which saw her become the Western Australian State Champion and 4 time Runner Up Champion. She has competed at multiple National Championships and was ranked 11th place in a section of over 60 competitors. She has also qualified and competed at the World Irish Dancing Championships in Killarney, Ireland and holds a Diploma of Irish Dancing (Grade 12). She will sit for her TCRG qualification when the next available exam is held in Australia. 

Christine holds a Bachelor of Communication majoring in Public Relations and has recently become a full-time mum.

CAOIMHE DORRIAN

Music Teacher

Caoimhe has a Bachelor of Religious Education & Music from Dublin City University and a Dioplóma sa Gaeilge B2 (Diploma in Irish language) from the National University of Ireland.

Learn to play the tin whistle and bodhran (Irish drum) lessons with group classes available through Tara Academy.

Caoimhe is passionate about teaching and is also the the music teacher at Nightcliff Middle School.
